Bar Moga
CHALLENGE: A client asked us to rebrand and overhaul the interior of their struggling cocktail bar. The bar is situated in a tough location, with little walking traffic on a large thoroughfare.
SOLUTION: Our team conceived of the new identity, inspired by Moga, the モダンガール modern girl of the 1920’s Art Deco era. Moga were the Japanese equivalent of the American flapper, living in the cities, being financially and emotionally independent, choosing their own suitors, and apathetic towards politics. At the time, they were heavily criticized for being stereotypically frivolous, sexually promiscuous, and selfish. Today, we see them as paving the way for future women, seeking change not through public protest, but via themselves.
We let this concept drive everything, from interior finishes: Andy Warhol x Rorschach wall paper, Japanese Art Deco canvas prints, and antique brass and crystal light fixtures; to logo and menu design: antique textures, burlesque accents, and stained glass motifs.
We launched Bar Moga’s super cool website and continue to provide them with social media services. We also collaborated with the chef and mixologist to ensure that the food and beverage program jived with the space. Bar Moga is one of our statement pieces, as we were allowed by the client to weave creative solutions throughout all aspects of the program. It is still in successful operation today.
